Some Updates
I've been slowly trying to resolve the starting issues with the B. There are basically 2 - fuel pump and starter. The existing fuel pump - which is a non-OEM - has been in the car since we bought it back in April 1988. It was emitting a constant hum, versus the intermittent clicking as it pumped gas. And there was no fuel flow to the filter. so I replaced that with a generic electric pump I purchased locally. That one seems to buzz constantly but didn't seem to fill the fuel filter. So I checked and blew out the lines (which included getting a mouthful of gas, yummy!) and they are all fine. I have a new fuel filter to put on, so we'll see if that works.
The second problem is the starter - turn the key, no sound. At first, I wondered if the wiring was messed up - if I put it on wrong when I rewired the starter after installing the engine. But I don't think so, since the car DID start and run a couple of times last fall. I believe it is the starter relay, which is slightly melted anyways. So I have a new one coming, that I ordered from the Little British Car Co (www.lbcarco.com). That should be here before the end of the week, so I can put it in and give everything a try again this week-end.
