Flywheel Unbolted (8/30/2007)

I was able to get the bolts off last night! Wasn't actually too hard, once I settled on the way to do it. What I did was set up my home-made flywheel holder tool, then heat each bolt for about a minute with my torch. The then took my ground-down socket (I ground it down until it was past the beveled edge, since the bolt heads are very shallow and allowed the socket to slip off) and tapped it with a hammer in the tighten mode, just a couple of light taps to try and break the bolt free. I then reversed the socket and tapped it in the loosen direction, and after a couple of taps, the bolt would loosen right up. Repeat 5 more times, and voila! a bag of bolts!

Next step is to ease the flywheel off the crankshaft, then bolt the engine to the engine stand, and I will be done with the preliminaries.....
